Bad Solar Installation

Shading

Time and time again we see installation’s with a shadow cast due to poor positioning or just an overzealous sales person. This photo is of a south facing roof taken at 7.30am in July and you can already see the shadow tracking across the array thus killing the vast majority of the power generation.

Wind shear

Every installation must have a wind shear calculation to insure that the correct number and size of fixing bolts are used this photo is from a European PV system which parted company on a windy day from its roof.

Whilst we are looking at fixings this photo was taken by a colleague in South Wales note the car jack adjusting the rack of the module.

There are times when it’s just not worth the effort these modules are fixed to the wall, no problems with this but where does the light come from! And they even found time to put some between the chimneys.
